Yea me!

While I am nowhere near as dedicated as my friend Liz, I am trying to get in some semblance of shape, and with that thought in mind, I went rollerblading this morning. My normal work out is half a mile to the “loop,” 4-6 “loops” @ 2/3 miles each, and then half a mile back to the car.

Well, today, I decided I would see how far I could go (and honestly, I probably went a lap or two longer than I should have) and I up and did 11 laps. By my, admittedly, foggy-minded math, that’s 8 1/3 miles. About 2/3 of a mile further than I have ever gone before, and 2 miles further than I have gone at any point this year. Woohoo!

I’d like to thank my iPod, who selected good songs, and kept me going!

    Yea you!
I can’t imagine being able to stay balanced that long! I think your mileage far outweighs my gym time… :) Sandra

    Hooray! Congratulations, Matt! :)

And, by the way, if you really want to get in shape, you should consider letting Sandra and me take charge of your workouts. The rollerblading expedition is impressive, for sure, but between her kickboxing know-how and my ever-growing knowledge of good weight training moves, I bet we can get you up to 10 miles in no time flat! :D

This is just nuts, but just as I start to work out again, I get sick again… this has been just about the most miserable summer EVER for colds. So, needless to say, I have not been out again since. Besides, you and Sandra would beat the hell out of me.

Well, I can sympathize … I’ve had the unfortunate experience of having a sinus infection one week, followed by almost-strep the next (still in recovery on that one). But I don’t think it’s correlated to working out. Just piss-poor luck on my part.

And, speaking for myself only, I wouldn’t beat the hell out of you initially. That’s something to work up to!

Well, the good news for the rest of us is that you two seem to have cornered the market on recurring (and unnameable) illnesses this season. The rest of us can breathe a sigh of relief.

Like Liz, I’d never beat you initially - I wouldn’t be very motivational for you to see the bruises the first couple of weeks! The idea is to get you where we are - begging for more every day!! :)
