I know that everyone was on the edge of their seat wondering… but no, not all of the Dallas Summer Musicals suck as bad as Wonderful Town did.
Camelot was actually quite enjoyable. Interesting story, cool sets, and I could actually understand what was being said. Michael York is not the strongest singer, but I could hear all the dialogue. Musicals apparently have a requirement to have at least one character who is so completely… over the top… egotistical and non-self aware (and yet people like them anyway). Every one I have seen lately has had the same type. I find this type irritating, but hey, to each their own. It’s the reason I didn’t like Seinfeld.
All in all, an enjoyable evening. Three stars. Joe Bob says check it out.
“There’s no way either of my two teams’ fans have the level of intense passion that Liverpool has,” said Hicks, who also owns baseball’s Texas Rangers and the NHL’s Dallas Stars. “I want them to. Hopefully, someday they will.”
Let’s consider this.
Mr. Hicks was speaking of his team that was playing for the Champions League title. EVERY teams fans are passionate when you are playing for the ultimate title in your sport. Let’s see how the Liverpool fans cheer when Hicks returns to his “tighter than the stripe on a 9-ball” tendencies and hires an incompetent general manager, as history has shown he inevitably will. As the losses mount, the passion will dissipate… even in England.
The Rangers are in the bottom third of the league in payroll, with a significant number still paying for A-Rod. I believe they finally paid off Chan Ho Park, although Phil Nevin may still be costing them something. What they do spend, they do not spend wisely. They are talent-poor, and Ron Washington is going to take the fall for what is clearly a sub-standard team.
The Stars, like Liverpool, were a championship quality team when Hicks acquired them. Since then, they have been abysmal at growing young talent, they have been FAR too loyal to long-time team members who have outstayed their welcome (ask Jerry Jones how well that works), and are so bereft of offensive talent that they could not score on a Plano East cheerleader. I have resigned my Stars season tickets after 9 years. I just couldn’t watch anymore.
Welcome to the club, Liverpool. Hicks is a vampire, and he’ll suck the passion out of you, too.
I understand I have some new readers, who may not properly understand what the title of this post means. So, let this serve as your warning.
I post these when I’m angry. I’m going to curse, a lot. If this sort of thing offends you, please do not click “Continue reading.”

Go get any magazine targeted at women. I saw this in “Playbill” while watching the already mentioned really bad musical.
Find the ad for Ambien (I am sure that there is one there… they advertise like crazy), even AmbienCR will do. Heck, if you are in a pinch, find the ad for Lunesta.
These are all glorified sleeping pills.
Now, check the required listing of side effects.
Look closely.
“Drowsiness”
Since these side effects are based on what was reported during the clinical trials… some idiot took a sleeping pill, then complained that it made them sleepy. Or possibly the manufacturer wanted to warn people that their sleeping pill might possibly make you sleepy, in case they couldn’t figure that out for themselves.
Good Lord, people are stupid.
There’s a line to the valet stand.
At intermission.
You think I’m kidding, but I’m not. There were hundreds of people pouring out of the Fair Park Music Hall last night at about 10pm.
The show “Wonderful Town” probably ended at 11.
I’ve never walked out of a show before, but this was really painful. Maybe I just am not cultured enough to appreciate “art.” But if that’s the case, many others were not appreciating it, either. The performances seemed fine, they just didn’t have much good material to work with. The premise was tired (two sisters move from Ohio to New York), the music was uninspired, and the script was completely unintelligible and disjointed. Several characters were hard to understand (especially “Wreck”, the football player).
The “pretty” sister was clueless. The “smart” sister was cynical and dark (and really wasn’t all that smart).
Apparently, this won Best Musical in 1953. Either they have done something to it, or 1953 was a very weak year for musicals.
Today I am playing around with the blogging bundles for the best text editor in the world, TextMate.
I literally have no idea what this post is going to look like when it gets posted, but I figure that no one checks my site on a minute to minute basis anyway.
I’m supposed to be able to embed images from Flickr, as well… which may go a long way toward getting me to post more photography. Let’s see if it works:
Well, that seemed to work well. I think I may need to make it a bit more obvious that the above image is linked to a larger version at Flickr. If you are reading this, by the way, click on it and go look at the big one. Pumps up my number of views at Flickr. Makes my already insufferable ego even more out of control. Thanks.
Oh, and it other news, Jerry Falwell died. And I made all sorts of changes to the templates in use on this site. I will leave it to the reader to determine which of these events is more important.
Why do people find it necessary to slurp coffee?
If you want to drink that nasty shit, that’s fine, but why make it an auditory experience for everyone in your general vicinity? It’s a totally disgusting noise. It’s not socially acceptable to burp during a business meeting, why is it socially acceptable to suck coffee and air into your gullet in the loudest possible manner?
I’ve asked coffee drinkers (and to be fair… not all of them do it. I also know people who slurp soup… equally disgusting) and they deny that it makes it taste better. It’s just something they do.
It’s gross. Stop it.
And stop throwing cigarette butts out your window. Also disgusting. It’s littering, and you should be fined. But that’s a topic for another entry.
Well, as you can see, there’s a new look and feel… but it’s more than that.
It’s a new server, a new provider, new blog software… everything.
Most things should be the same, with the following exceptions:
- Most of the photgraphs are gone, I’m planning on putting them in a gallery, or up on Flickr.
- I lost one post (my last one, about Twitter, which was stupid anyway) and one comment (the one where Liz said that she did tip at Sonic, until she started paying by credit card). Both of these were created after I did the data transfer to the new server.
- I bet that the RSS feed is all messed up, but I have not checked.
If you notice anything really funny, feel free to leave a comment.
